5 Teens Charged With Hate Crime In The Catskills

Tuesday Apr 20 2010 11:00:00 AM COMMENTS

Five teens charged with hate crimes spray-painted a swastika and spelled out "Hitler" at the Kaiman Bungalow Colony, an Orthodox Jewish summer community on Mount Hope Road, sheriff's deputies say. Around 4:45 p.m. on Sunday, Deputy Blake Starner spotted several people leaving a bungalow on the grounds.

He made eye contact with one teen, who bolted into the woods; the rest scattered. Starner called for backup and chased the five teens through the woods and onto the Swan Lake golf course. More deputies, a K-9 unit and state troopers arrived and arrested Daniel Anderson, 19; Travis Beaupierre, 16; Dishawn Terry, 16; Malik Keith, 18; and Daemion Cameron, 19. The teens are residents of Abbott House, a home in Swan Lake for troubled teens.

They broke into several buildings and stuffed their pockets with stolen items, Detective Sgt. Don Starner said.
